If Jesus would permit you to eavesdrop into a prayer that He has prayed for you, what would it do for you?
Would it capture your heart? Would it realign your thinking?
An archaeologist sweeps sweat from his fixed brow. The wide brimmed hat he wears is scarcely a match for the tidal waves of sunlight pounding the hot bed of rock and sand beneath him. He digs in earnest…slowly…carefully…expectation resides here. At last he sees something -and knows that this treasure was hidden to be found. It is destined to be shared apart from the land that holds it and to be seen by the hungry of heart who just want to know that they are a part of the timeline of eternity.
Step into the prayer that Jesus prayed for you…John chapter 17….
Lock eyes onto the earnest plea that the Savior makes for you…for me…. In verse 22 & 23.
“I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are-I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one. Then the world will know that you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me….” (vs.22 &23).
I think I missed something….
Perhaps like the archaeologists in our digging, we were captured by the magnitude of the collective whole of the prayer, when what is the most stunning revelation is simply in this one line…”you love them as much as you love me…”(vs. 23)
This…Why, this is simply spectacular.
Jesus wants the world to understand that the Father loves us just as much as He loves Jesus.
What?! I will say it again, “What?!”
One thing I think no one needs convincing of is that God loves His son… no one would argue over that point.
Us? Well surely that is another story.
No, no really. We are not another story.
Jesus said that the Father loves us as much as He loves Jesus.
God chips away at our dirt and our hard places, and we can see His love is for us and working through us. Such beauty results that it is meant to be shared, it is meant to be discovered. The world is meant to understand that God is the God who goes to the heart of who we are, He breaks us free from everything that weighs us down. He scrapes off all that hinders us from being seen as His choice possessions. As we yield to His process, we see ourselves breaking free, we see ourselves loved and highly treasured by our heavenly father….Remember God loves you like He loves Jesus.
“In His goodness He chose to make us His own children by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became his choice possession.” James 1:18
